Welcome to Upper East

The Upper East is an area that gently slopes upwards away from downtown towards The Mission and the base of The Riviera. It’s lower border is defined as that area east of State Street and above Valerio Street. It is generally believed that the Upper East is one of Santa Barbara’s most prestigious neighborhoods. Many homes have great mountain views and some have peaks of the ocean. The Santa Barbara Mission sits center stage amidst the beautiful upscale homes.

With a rose garden and a picturesque backdrop of mountains and blue sky, the mission is spectacular. Established in the 1700’s, the mission has been added onto and rebuilt three times. It has an ongoing parish ministry, and public offerings such as educational tours and festivals. The Upper East is a wonderful walking neighborhood with a relatively easy walk to all the amenities in the downtown area or an amble to the nearby Mission Rose Gardens.

Residents especially enjoy the convenience of being minutes from the city stores, museums, theaters and most of downtown. Many of the homes in this neighborhood are of historical or architectural significance, and it is worth taking a walking tour of the entire neighborhood.
